MacAppADay is your free source for apps for your mac. Throughout December, each and every day (where possible, we can't be held responsible for developers who go on holiday and then cancel), we’ll give away 5000 copies of a popular mac application. Even if all the apps were only worth $5.00, that’d be $150.00. And some of them are worth a lot more. Oh, and this is not a competition. Everyone gets every single application (up to a maximum of 5000 copies daily). All you have to do is remember to visit the site each day from the 1st December. And there’s a bonus on New Years! We’re not joking.

Next app at Midnight PST 29th

    It would be helpful to know something like…you know…what it is we’re supposed to be designing…

  2. I don’t get it.
    Diordna is right, wtf is it we’re supposed to do?

  3. yeah, this is pretty sparse on details. You say you built the site and you want us to design the interface… well it looks like you have 90% of the interface complete. So, what… you need some buttons, font faces, and a way to display images? OR is this image just a placeholder and the entire interface needs to be designed from the ground up.

    Please give a bit more in the way of details.

    WHAT??? That’s really lame. You get a complete UI designed and what I get is some line in the credits of a maybe unsuccessful app and a one year subscription.
    All the other MacAppaDay thingies were really cool but that really sucks.

  5. Ha! I probably get paid several “1 year subscriptions” per *hour* for designing web interfaces, depending on what they charge. Looks like somebody couldn’t afford a designer.

  6. i can’t wait for Pzizz…

    What exactly are we designing?

    - the site or some downloadable app that somehow works with the site?

    and how?

    -using fome photo editor or using some true UI programming?

    And, again, what is the functionality supposed to be?

  8. Isn’t that an oxymoron..
    Mac …… . . .. . Games

    This is not an App, this is a begging letter. On the 27th you said

    “We will be back on the 29th December with the first of the three remaining applications that we have to offer this year. The second will be on the 30th, and the final one will be on the 31st.”

    This is the 30th, and its not an app.

    You started well, but you have failed to fulfill your promises. I have absolutely bugger all faith in Waste-A-Weekend now.

  10. This is also not the regular release time… don’t be so quick on the trigger. Though it does need more info surrounding it. That’s not enough info to do anything.

    yeah, i think Gippy is right, I think this isn’t an app just something they want to alert us of.

  12. Wait, you want us to design an interface…
    but we don’t know what the hell the app is supposed to do?!!?

    seriosly, a little short on the details.

    I’ve got 2 licenses to that piece of crap and don’t use either. Piece of crap if you ask me.

    Some finale to this promo, all I got were lots of useless, locked down, apps. Give us something good.

  15. people seem awfully anxious to stay up late to get their hands on an application designed to aid with getting more sleep (pzizz)… thus is the definition of irony…

  16. @Anonymous…

    If you would check the OTHER post for today, you’ll that this is in addition to the app (not in place of).

    Oh, wow. I didn’t know someone could stretch their leg like that to get their foot so deep in their mouth.

  17. @AV - Then you’re probably not the demographic for this contest. It’s OK, I don’t think an entry is required.

    @Jimmy - I am SSSOOO with you guy!!

    @Gippy & Sliceoflime - Yep, you’re right.

    @APCS11 - Yep, you’re right too! :)

    @Mark Fleser - Hey, have you activated that license? If it’s legit, would you like to send it my way?? I think that “piece of crap” as you refer to it is going to be OUTSTANDING!! and I CAN’T WAIT! to try it!!

    @Ryan - You bet, I haven’t slept since November and I’m good with that!

    @Collin - Good call!

    This merely reinforces the fact that the creators of this wack site have given up.

    I wish there was more information about this design contest too–I always like a challenge and am willing and able to participate, but it’s not at all clear what I need to do to create and submit a design for this contest. Please, please, give us more details. I’m actually quite excited by challenges like this, e.g., your recent “color this graphic” challenge (what a killer piece of participatory art!), but seriously, I’m not sure what’s needed or required in this prize. Any more info possible?

    As for the macappaday giveaway overall, I have stated several times that though it *clearly* has been a challenge to overcome various registration processes and other technical obstacles, aren’t we Mac users supposed to be “smarter than the average bear?” I’ve gotten every app I really wanted, though I’ve had to be flexible in both browser and download method, and despite that I’m stuck with Panther still, I have even downloaded and saved those Tiger-only programs offered in preparation for the day when I am able to upgrade. Regardless of how macappaday has handled these various giveaways, please, users, ask yourself–did you really try everything you could to get the app? I don’t care how well or not the macappaday people or individual developers presented their apps, there was *always* a way to get what you wanted. To put it concisely, I am not an apologist for this web site in any way (many, if not most, of my comments have been critical), but, c’mon, complaining users–do you really have the intellectual flexibility to truly use a Mac? Find a way!

    And as for those judging the quality and/or usefulness of the products offered, who really gives 2 flying shi**s about your opinion? What app doesn’t have supporters and detractors–seriously, name me one! I specifically loved Yummy FTP (clearly the most beloved of the giveaways), the stupidfish freebies (shadowClipboard and shadowBurn–this developer is one of the most cool I’ve ever communicated with), and Shoebox and Typinator have proved themselves to be incredibly useful. This recent imodb webapp has to be the least useful thing macappaday offered this month for *me*, but that doesn’t mean other freebies this month haven’t made me happy and grateful, and more importantly, my distaste for the specific offering doesn’t negate the fact that many people *will* like what’s been given.

    Again, apologist I’m not–I was really shocked and concerned when the ubiquitous Vincent/Macman said he’d IP ban anyone who had complained about macappaday (and even for this Waste-a-Way-Weekend in March that nobody can even register for now!), but do the mistakes of contest organizers necessarily negate all that they have done? I too wish several things had been otherwise, but I cannot be truly honest if I don’t say that there are many things this contest has done right.

    See, macappaday is like most things in life–it doesn’t have an inherent truth or value in of itself–it only waits for your judgment, rational or not.

    I love reading comments from every perspective–keep ‘em coming!

    Hey Owl, that was macZOT!, not MAAD. Just so’s y’know. Two very different initiatives and groups of people. =]
